Domino Liver Transplant

Jefferson's Liver Transplant Program supports domino liver transplants. Our Program has a long tradition of outstanding outcomes. Not only do we have the longest-running liver transplantation program in the Delaware Valley, but we also have the lowest mortality rate among patients on the recipient waiting list of centers served by the nonprofit Gift of Life Donor Program in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware.

What Does a Domino Liver Transplant Involve?

In this scenario, a young patient with a metabolic disease – such as amyloidosis – receives a liver from a deceased donor. The young patient's liver is then harvested for donation to an older patient with liver cancer. It could take as many as 20 years for the older patient to develop symptoms of the metabolic disorder.

Our multidisciplinary team of surgeons, hepatologists, oncologists, radiologists and other specialists will work with you to improve your quality of life before and after surgery.
