Laser Skin Resurfacing
Years of overexposing your skin to the sun without protection can lead to wrinkles, skin discoloration and sunspots. While you should always be mindful to protect your skin when you're in the sun to prevent this type of damage, today there are several new procedures to help remove these effects as well as scars from acne or other skin injuries.
DOT Therapy is a laser procedure performed by Jefferson facial aestheticians that takes less than an hour to restore your skin's youthful appearance. During the procedure, the highly skilled physicians at Jefferson will apply a pattern of laser pulses to your skin. The DOT Therapy laser precisely creates thousands of microscopic holes (DOTs) in your skin, which induces immediate skin tightening and stimulates new collagen growth.

Fraxel® Re:Store Laser
The Fraxel re:store laser offered by Jefferson cosmetic dermatologists is used to improve overall skin color, tone and texture, and is useful for individuals who have sun-induced freckles. It is also effective for improving skin texture, including wrinkles and scars. In addition, it is one of the best treatment options available for acne scarring.
Patients usually require between four to six treatments to attain optimal results. Treatments may be performed as often as every seven to 10 days, but in most cases they are done four weeks apart.
After arriving for the procedure, a topical anesthetic gel is applied to the treatment area and allowed to sit for an hour. In addition to the anesthetic gel, our dermatologists also use a device called the Zimmer Cooler (a handheld cool air device), which chills the skin and makes the procedure even more comfortable.
Fraxel® Dual Laser
The Fraxel Dual Laser has the unique property of allowing a Jefferson cosmetic dermatologist to treat both superficial and deeper skin problems — all with one device. This device operates at a new wavelength of 1927 nm, which makes it a revolutionary wavelength ideal for patients with sun-induced freckles, age spots and other types of hyperpigmentation, superficial wrinkles and texture irregularities. It is also effective for precancerous lesions such as actinic keratoses.
Most patients see excellent results after only two to three treatments.
Treatment time is about 15 to 20 minutes and is preceded by an hour-long application of a topical anesthetic gel. The treatment is accompanied by mild tingling of the skin, which ends immediately after the laser is completed. You will not require any wound care after the treatment. Most patients have a moderate amount of postprocedure swelling, and you will experience peeling of the skin on days three to five.
Total recovery time is five to seven days with only mild discomfort for the first few days. We recommend that patients use ice for swelling and apply a gentle moisturizer to keep skin hydrated.
