Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

During functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), an endoscope is used in the nose to view the nasal cavity and sinuses for signs of a sinus problem such as chronic sinusitis. At Jefferson, our head and neck surgeons perform the most sinus surgeries in the Delaware Valley, including FESS.

What Does Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery Involve?

During this type of minimally invasive surgery, the surgeon finds the natural openings of the sinuses and removes the blockages, which may be polyps or diseased tissue. The natural openings are then enlarged with small instruments also placed through the nose. The goal of FESS is to help reduce your chronic symptoms.
