The Jefferson Health Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology now offers endoscopic bariatric treatments as a part of our Comprehensive Weight Management Center. Our team of professionals – including physicians, nurses and dietitians – work together to ensure that you receive a personalized plan and the safest approach to successful weight loss.

Types of Treatment

Dr. Austin Chiang, Director of the Endoscopic Program, discusses the minimally invasive procedures available at Jefferson for patients who are not candidates for traditional bariatric surgery:


Intragastric Balloon

During this outpatient procedure, a latex-free silicone balloon is placed into the stomach. Once inflated, the balloon leaves enough room in the stomach for a healthy food portion. Read More>

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty

This treatment allows physicians to restrict the size of the stomach by using a scope that is passed through the mouth and esophagus. Read More>

Endoscopic Gastric Bypass Revision

This approach is for patients who have regained weight after a previous gastric bypass surgery. Outpatient endoscopic suturing is used to reduce the size of the gastric pouch and the size of the outlet between the gastric pouch and intestine, helping patients to lose weight again. Read More>
