Top of the Class: Seven Jefferson Health Hospitals Earn “A” Grades for Patient Safety from Leapfrog

PHILADELPHIA —Report cards are in and Jefferson Health hospitals earned high marks from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit health care ratings organization. Seven of the system’s hospitals, including all three in New Jersey, were assigned “A” grades in patient safety. Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades evaluate hospitals nationwide on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms. Only 832 hospitals nationwide received an “A.”

“As Jefferson Health continues to expand into the communities that we are privileged to serve, it is imperative that we remain relentlessly focused on quality and safety for our patients and employees,” said Bruce Meyer, MD, MBA, Chief Physician Executive of Jefferson Health. “Our Leapfrog grades show the steadfast commitment of our staff, physicians and nurses to our patients and their loved ones.”

The following Jefferson Health hospitals earned an “A” grade:

  • Abington – Lansdale Hospital
  • Aria Bucks County Hospital
  • Jefferson Cherry Hill Hospital
  • Jefferson Stratford Hospital
  • Jefferson Washington Township Hospital
  • Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (including Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience)
  • Methodist Hospital

Abington Hospital, Aria Frankford Hospital and Aria Torresdale Hospital received “B” grades. All Jefferson Health hospitals that are graded by Leapfrog improved or sustained their letter including all three hospitals in New Jersey which have achieved a Leapfrog “A” for the last seven cycles of reporting. Leapfrog ratings are just one of Jefferson Health’s tools to drive improvement in important areas of patient safety.

Developed under the guidance of a Blue Ribbon National Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
