Jefferson Acquires Controlling Interest in Rothman Orthopaedic Specialty Hospital in Bensalem
“The revolution in orthopedic surgery is resulting in improved care at a lower cost and the Rothman Institute and Jefferson Health are national leaders in that pursuit,” said Stephen K. Klasko, MD, MBA, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health. “We are always looking for ways to transform how we care for patients and to increase the quality and convenience of care offered across our service areas. Partnering with Rothman in the operation of a specialty hospital along with our other great inpatient and outpatient orthopedic facilities at Abington, Aria and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital allows us to uniquely do the right procedure for the right patient at the right time."
ROSH is accredited by The Joint Commission. It focuses exclusively on patients with orthopaedic medical issues and offers services for joint replacement, spinal surgery, and sports medicine management, among others. The hospital, which opened in 2010 and has 24 beds and six operating rooms, has experienced significant growth in case volume in the last several years.
“Rothman Institute is excited to add another level of commitment to our already-strong relationship with Jefferson Health,” said Alexander R. Vaccaro, MD, PhD, MBA, President of Rothman Institute. “ROSH is one of the premier specialty hospitals in the region and consistently delivers excellent care and comfort to our patients, which is reflected in our outcomes and our satisfaction scores. We are excited to continue this level of specialty care to patients as part of the Jefferson Health hospital network and expect a seamless transition.”
Jefferson provides the full spectrum of musculoskeletal care, from highly complex care at an academic medical center in Center City, to specialty care at ROSH, Methodist Hospital and Aria Bucks County. The services available at ROSH may eventually expand to include radiation oncology services.
Jefferson has held a minority ownership interest in ROSH since May 2010 and as a result of the recent transaction now holds a controlling ownership interest. Rothman Specialty Hospital Investment, LLC, Nueterra Holdings, LLC and Holy Redeemer Health System all continue to hold ownership interests in ROSH.
