Philadelphia 76ers Announce Groundbreaking Partnership with The Rothman Institute and Jefferson

With the addition of the Sixers, Rothman and Jefferson are among the first healthcare partners in professional sports to provide care to four major league teams in the same market

The Philadelphia 76ers today announced a groundbreaking, multi-platform partnership with the Rothman Institute and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. The Rothman Institute will provide the Official Orthopedics & Urgent Care of the Philadelphia 76ers, as well as the Official Team Physicians; Thomas Jefferson University Hospital becomes an Official Hospital of the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers, the Rothman Institute and Jefferson will commemorate their partnership prior to tonight's Sixers home game at 6:15 p.m. with a jersey presentation from Sixers Chief Executive Officer Scott O'Neil to Mike West, CEO of Rothman Institute, Michael Ciccotti, M.D., Director of Sports Medicine at Rothman Institute and Stephen K. Klasko, M.D., MBA, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health System at center court.

With the addition of the Sixers, the Rothman Institute and Jefferson are among the first healthcare providers in the nation to partner with four major sports teams in the same market.

"We are honored to play such a key role in helping our partners at the Rothman Institute and Jefferson accomplish this incredible feat," said O'Neil. "To have four teams in a major market entrust the care of their players to the same institutions speaks to the unmatched professionalism, quality of skill and breadth of expertise that both Rothman and Jefferson possess. We are proud to align our brand with theirs as we protect and support the health of athletes of all ages for years to come."

"Rothman Institute is pleased to enter into agreement to be the official team physicians for the Philadelphia 76ers," said Alexander R. Vaccaro, M.D., Ph.D., President, Rothman Institute. "This partnership positions us as one of the first practices in the country providing care for all four of the major professional sports teams in one city. Professional sports medicine has a major trickle-down effect. The procedures, research, and technology developed in elite-level sports medicine directly translates to our everyday patients. We look forward to delivering that level of care in our offices on a daily basis and anticipate a successful partnership with the Sixers."

"Philadelphia is an elite sports town, and together with our championship orthopedic surgeons and sports medicine physicians, Jefferson Health System is proud to be the 76ers healthcare partner," said Stephen K. Klasko, M.D., MBA, President and CEO of Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health System. "Whether you are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, whether your problem is an ankle sprain or a concussion or anything in between, Jefferson is the place where amateurs and professionals get the care and caring they need to get back in the game."

Included in the partnership is the team's new Tagboard feature, which will be presented by the Rothman Institute at Jefferson. Tagboard gives fans at Sixers home games that use the hashtag "#SixersLIVE" in posts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Vine the chance to contribute to the game in-arena by showcasing their photos and comments on the Sixers' video boards.

Additionally, the Rothman Institute will support the health and wellness of youth athletes in-arena as Presenting Partner of the Youth Athletic Platform, which includes all youth basketball games played on the court during pregame and at halftime. All such group participants will receive a co-branded Sixers and Rothman Institute drawstring bag during the 2014-15 season.

Outside of the arena, the Rothman Institute will present the team's long-standing, wide-ranging Sixers Camps program. Sixers Camps hosts basketball and dance camps throughout the summer and an annual Holiday Hoops program in December for children of all ages throughout the Philadelphia region. The Rothman Institute will provide giveaways for participating campers, and Rothman physicians will have the opportunity to teach the children about health, wellness and injury prevention, giving them the knowledge and tools to help them play for years to come.
