Jefferson Names Praveen Chopra Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO)
Praveen Chopra was appointed to the newly established position of Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Thomas Jefferson University and the TJUH System. Chopra is responsible for enterprise-wide Information Services and Technology functions and achieving Jefferson's long-term vision aligned with university and hospital business objectives.
Prior to arriving at Jefferson, Chopra held the position of Vice President, Chief Information Officer and Chief Supply Chain Officer for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. There he led a team of 400+ through innovation driven transformation. Chopra was instrumental in operationalizing enterprise wide information and technology governance, and leading large scale change management associated with Electronic Medical Records, Community Health Records, Meaningful Use, Enterprise Analytics with Big Data, Information Security, and Value Analysis initiatives.
Chopra's collaboration with Georgia Institute of Technology won both organizations a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to develop new techniques for managing EMR data. His effort to manage H1N1 response led to the "Most Innovative" award from Healthcare Informatics, and a patent-pending care and population health management tool developed under his leadership was showcased as an InformationWeek 500 award winner for innovative use of information and technology.
Previously, Chopra served as Product Merchant and Manager, Supply Chain of The Home Depot, Inc.; Manager, Supply Chain for Accenture; and Business Development Manager of Larsen & Toubro Limited.
Chopra received his Computer Science and Engineering degree from National Institute of Technology in Rourkla, India. He is currently a member of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
