Heart Care Services

Jefferson cardiologists are at the forefront of advancing the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease.

Diagnosing Heart Disease

To check for heart disease, your doctor may request several tests, including chest X-rays, coronary angiograms, electrocardiograms and exercise stress tests.

If you are diagnosed with a heart condition, you can expect personalized, expert care of a variety of heart-related disorders, including:

Treating Heart Disease

Patients have access to an array of heart disease treatment options, including medication, dietary adjustments, rehabilitation, exercise and surgery.

If you have been told you need open heart surgery, physicians of our Angioplasty Center may be able to offer a less invasive option or no surgery at all. For opening blocked coronary arteries, our interventional cardiologists offer the Philadelphia region's widest variety of alternatives to surgery, including balloon angioplasty, coronary artery stenting, excimer laser angioplasty and rotational atherectomy often guided by intracardiac ultrasound and intracoronary pressure measurements.

Preventing Heart Disease

We place an emphasis on the prevention of heart disease, especially for patients with a family history of heart problems.

In addition to advanced blood testing and analysis to determine overall risk, patients receive risk-factor counseling. Our physicians will map out tailored programs to reduce the risk of heart disease, which may include:

  • Lifestyle changes
  • Weight management
  • Diet and exercise
  • Smoking cessation
  • Medication to maintain appropriate cholesterol and blood pressure levels
