Jefferson University Hospitals

World-class neurologists at Jefferson are experienced in treating serious conditions like septicemia (blood poisoning). You can take comfort in knowing that you will receive prompt diagnosis and treatment for this life-threatening and fast-developing infection, which may be an indicator of meningitis. Your Jefferson medical team will work quickly to reduce the risk of complications, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and septic shock, and help you return to good health. More than 500 times a year, patients are transferred from other hospitals to Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience for access to our exceptional care, expertise and technology.

For the multidisciplinary care of critical-care patients with septicemia, Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience's new state-of-the-art Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NICU) makes available the highest level of tertiary neuroscience care in the region, and has expanded neuroscience critical care capacity to 50 beds. The NICU consists of full-time neurosurgeons, neurologists, neurointensivists (neurologists with critical care training) and specially trained nurses and is equipped with the latest medical technologies, including ICU monitoring.
