Patellofemoral Stress Syndrome (Runner's Knee)

If you are experiencing knee pain, it is important to seek treatment early to prevent further damage or disability to your joints. Patellofemoral stress syndrome (runner's knee) is a common knee problem and is managed by orthopedic surgeons at Jefferson.

As the name of the condition suggests, runner's knee is often caused by a certain way of walking or running. Jefferson has one of the largest sports medicine services in the country, with more than 16 fellowship-trained sports medicine specialists.

Each year, our Sports Medicine Center specialists evaluate more than 40,000 athletes and perform more than 3,000 reconstructive surgeries related to athletic injuries. Our clients include weekend warriors and competitors from regional public and private schools, numerous collegiate teams, the U.S. Women's Gymnastics Team, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies. Our radiologists offer advanced sports imaging and have pioneered imaging diagnosis of many athletic injuries.
