Dysmenorrhea is a menstrual condition characterized by severe and frequent menstrual cramps and pain. There are two types of dysmenorrhea: primary – which begins when you first start menstruating (getting your period) and is lifelong – and secondary, which is due to some physical cause and usually begins later in your life. There may be an underlying cause of dysmenorrheal, such as pelvic inflammatory disease or endometriosis.
