  • If you are using a ventilator (e.g. Trilogy) machine, you MUST continue to use it. This is a life-sustaining device.
  • If you are using a BiPAP or CPAP machine that has been recalled, talk to your health care provider to determine whether you should continue using the device while awaiting further direction from Philips Respironics.
  • Follow manufacturer instructions on how to clean your machine.

Jefferson Health is committed to ensuring a safe, high quality care experience for our patients. The care and confidence of our patients are top priorities for everyone at Jefferson Health.

Although many sleep disorders go undiagnosed, the experienced specialists of the Jefferson Sleep Disorders Center will work hard to diagnose your disorder and provide advanced treatment, whether you have sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, insomnia or the like.

Established in 1978, the Jefferson Sleep Disorders Center was the first such program in the Philadelphia area and is accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Because sleep disorders aren't limited to one traditional medical discipline, our Center staff continually interacts with experts from other medical specialties – including psychiatry, psychology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, pediatrics, neurology, internal medicine and pulmonary medicine.

Sleep Disorder Treatment Options

Treatment begins with a daytime consultation with a Jefferson sleep medicine specialist. A sleep study may then be ordered. Studies take place in the comfort of our state-of-the-art facility during the patient’s normal sleeping hours. A home sleep study may be possible for some patients.

Treatment options include devices such as upper airway stimulation therapy, continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), oral appliances, medications and psychotherapy. Behavioral management techniques are frequently employed and include relaxation training with biofeedback, hypnosis, stimulus control therapy, chronotherapy, sleep hygiene management, phototherapy and sleep restriction, among others.

Treating Sleep Disorders in Women

At the Jefferson Sleep Disorders Center, we recognize the unique characteristics of women's sleep challenges and offer expert diagnosis and treatment through our Women's Program. We're sensitive to the enormous time constraints you face, and we know how profoundly a lack of time can affect sleep. Helping you understand that sleep is a priority and teaching good sleep hygiene are essential tools of our treatment.

Treating Sleep Disorders in Children

Adults have trouble sleeping in different ways than children do. If your child is experiencing sleep problems, our comprehensive program cares for children ages 3 and up.
