Specialty Care

Department Leadership

The Nemours Partners for Perinatal Management program is committed to partnering with expectant mothers and their physicians to give babies with congenital abnormalities the very best start in life. Our highly skilled team works to develop a plan of care for before and after a baby is born, and helps families cope with the challenges of unexpected congenital conditions.

All babies born at Jefferson are special babies. However, when a newborn is born under critical circumstances including prematurity, acute respiratory distress and medical, surgical and cardiac disorders, their first days of life are spent in our Level IIIC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (Neonatal ICU), recognized as one of the best in the Philadelphia region. Level III means that we can offer advanced care for premature, low-birth weight and critically ill infants.

Working with neonatal nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical, speech and occupational therapists, and social workers, our Nemours neonatology group oversees ongoing care of infants in the Neonatal ICU 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The most up-to-date and innovative techniques available are used, and our team strives to create a supportive, family-centered experience in order to bring peace of mind as well as successful outcomes to families.

Once your baby is stabilized and discharged, our care doesn't end there. Our physicians and nurse practitioners will provide clinical follow-up through our Nemours Neonatal Follow-Up Program. This is to ensure that you and your baby are doing well and to answer any questions you may have. We will also schedule follow-up appointments so that we can monitor your baby's progress and ensure you have all the support you need in the days and weeks following discharge.

Our Program see patients on Wednesdays. Appointments can be made by calling 215-861-8830.

Specialists within the Nemours Diagnostic Referral Service evaluate and treat children with difficult diagnoses and coordinate services for children with complex conditions who are referred from your primary care physician, the Emergency Department and other subspecialties. Our specialists are highly trained in looking into the cause of your child's symptoms.

Research includes significant programs in applied science and engineering in rehabilitation; clinical medical sciences in a host of areas; and developmental biology, including a leading effort in teratology.
