Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals now provides highly specialized trauma and fracture care through our Orthopedic Trauma Services. These potentially limb-threatening or life-altering injuries commonly result from car accidents, falls, sporting activities and industrial accidents.
Our Center City Philadelphia Emergency Department is one of only 14 hospitals in the United States that is both a Level 1 Trauma Center and a federally designated Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center. The Trauma Center emphasizes a team approach, with trauma and orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists and neurosurgeons working together to provide multidisciplinary care for major injuries.
Orthopedic Trauma and Fracture Conditions We Treat
Our areas of expertise include:
- Fractures and multiple injuries – Coordinate care with the Division of Acute Care Surgery and the Department of Emergency Medicine in our Level 1 Regional Resource Trauma Center to ensure that protocols and pathways of safety and effectiveness are followed for patient recovery and proper healing.
- Difficult fractures (e.g., pelvic fractures and intra-articular fractures) – Extensive experience in performing procedures on fractures of the pelvis and those involving joints.
- Infected or improperly healed fractures – Trained in specialized procedures for fractures for which fixation has failed or for which an onsite infection has posed a surgical challenge.
