Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology

During COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Outbreak

We are still scheduling appointments for new and existing patients. At this time, patients may bring one person to an office visit, office procedure or ultrasound. A child may also accompany the patient if the patient can supervise the child and/or bring one other person who will be responsible for the child.

We have made several temporary adjustments to how we deliver care to reduce your risk and ensure safety. Adjustments we’ve made include:

  • Increased Health Protocols
Masks are required of all who enter our office. We do not recommend bringing a child to your visit at this time.
  • Video/Telehealth visits
These visits allow you to use a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) or desktop computer with a camera to speak with your provider through a video connection.
  • Expanded In-person appointments
We added early-morning and evening appointments for those with medical conditions that make them more susceptible to illness. Additionally, we created appropriate space between chairs in waiting areas and ensure that all patients and care team members have masks and appropriate protection.

Learn more about initiating a video visit by speaking with your physician’s office or by visiting our telehealth services page.

Expert gynecologic care for children and young adults in a warm, supportive setting

Jefferson Health Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology is one of the few programs in the region, and the only program in Philadelphia, that specializes in gynecologic care for children and young adults. We understand the unique needs of our young patients and provide expert gynecologic care and guidance in a supportive and sensitive environment. We go beyond diagnosing and treating gynecologic conditions; we educate and empower our patients to be active and engaged in their own health care as they develop into adulthood.

Specialized Care

Our team includes the only fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologist in Philadelphia. Everything we do is focused on the gynecologic health of children and young adults, including patients with complex medical and surgical conditions, patients who have special needs and patients who are transgender. Every patient is unique and every appointment is individualized; our approach, and any tests or treatments ordered, is entirely based on the specific needs of each patient and family. We provide expert gynecologic care with compassion and respect, giving special care to the emotional needs of our young patients.

Coordinated Approach

Many conditions we treat require a coordinated approach; we bring together a multidisciplinary team based on each patient’s condition. Our Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology program is a collaboration between Jefferson Health and Nemours Children’s Health, uniting the area’s top experts in pediatric and adolescent gynecology, adolescent medicine and pediatric urology, surgery and endocrinology. Our patients also have access to our dedicated clinical psychologist and social worker. With our collaborative approach, we provide each patient with exactly the care they need.

Message from our Director

“We know that your first visit to the gynecologist can seem scary, but it doesn’t have to be that way! We aim to make your time with us as comfortable as possible – we are here to listen and to help.

We work together with patients and their families to solve problems and figure out the best treatment plan for any concerns. Our goal is to educate young women and empower them to be knowledgeable and active participants in their own health care.”

- Beth I. Schwartz, MD

Empowering our Patients

We offer family-centered care and welcome parents and guardians to play active roles in promoting the health and wellbeing of our young patients. We ask parents to stay with children under the age of 13 at all times during visits. For our teenage patients, we ask to spend time alone with them during each visit to help build rapport and empower them to be responsible for their own health care. During this private, confidential time, we will address topics that may be difficult to discuss in the presence of their parents or guardians. We recognize the importance of having a strong support system while respecting the privacy of our teenage patients.
