Tests & Treatments

Offering advanced tests and treatments for the health of you and your baby

Jefferson Health Obstetrics & Maternity Care offers a range of tests and treatments using the latest technology and procedures to support a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

Our Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists offer a variety of prenatal screening options, including amniocentesis, to diagnose chromosome abnormalities and help you make informed decisions about your pregnancy.

Cerclage Placement
Cerclage is the use of stitches in the cervix to hold it closed during pregnancy to prevent preterm birth and pregnancy loss. We are experienced in placing transvaginal and transabdominal cerclages during pregnancy, prior to pregnancy and even in emergency situations when the cervix has already dilated.

Cesarean Delivery
A cesarean delivery is a surgical delivery of your baby by an incision through your abdomen and uterus. In the event that you need a cesarean or surgical delivery, we have dedicated surgical suites in the Labor Delivery unit.

Chorionic Villus Sampling
If you and your obstetrician are concerned about genetic conditions being passed through to your baby, chorionic villus sampling can provide the genetic diagnostic information early in your pregnancy.

Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring
During your pregnancy, we will complete fetal echocardiography, a detailed ultrasound of your baby's heart, which may be necessary to screen for, or diagnose, a congenital heart defect. If a congenital heart defect is identified, we partner with pediatric cardiologists from nationally renowned Nemours Children’s Health to help in the diagnosis, delivery planning and postnatal care after delivery.

Ultrasounds vary by condition but consist of high-frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures inside the body. Ultrasound is a safe, non-radiation method for detailed evaluation of the fetus and uterus during pregnancy. We also offer 3-D ultrasounds that provide additional layers of evaluation of both fetal anomalies and maternal uterine anomalies.
