Tests & Treatments
Partnering with you to create a personalized care plan
Our Jefferson Health midwives are experts of reproductive health, pregnancy and birth. You are the expert of your body, values and life. Between us, we have all of the information we need to make a plan of care that will be best for you and your family, using our range of expert tests and treatments.
One of the most important early breast cancer screenings, we conduct breast exams to detect a lump or other changes in your breast that may require more testing.
We will help you decide on the right method of contraception for you to prevent pregnancy. Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARC), such as Intrauterine Devices (IUDs), are the most effective forms of contraception.
Fetal Heart Rate Monitoring
During your pregnancy, we will complete fetal echocardiography, a detailed ultrasound of your baby's heart, which may be necessary to screen for, or diagnose, a congenital heart defect. If a congenital heart defect is identified, we partner with pediatric cardiologists from nationally renowned Nemours Children’s Health to help in the diagnosis, delivery planning and postnatal care after delivery.
Health Promotion Counseling
We offer generalized health promotion to educate and help you to choose healthy behaviors to improve your overall health, today and in the future. Our goal is to empower you to take control of your own health.
An intrauterine device (IUD) is a small, t-shaped device that we insert into the uterus to prevent pregnancy. IUDs offer long-term, reversible and effective birth control. We specialize in the placement and removal of IUDs.
We recommend annual mammograms starting at age 45 (or as early as 40) as the most effective tool for early detection of breast cancer. During a mammogram, two plates on a low-energy x-ray machine slowly come together to compress each breast for a few seconds.
Nexplanon® is a small, thin and flexible implant that we insert under the skin of the upper arm as a form of birth control. The etonogestrel implant releases a continuous low dose of hormone to prevent pregnancy and lasts up to three years. We have been recognized as a center of experience for removal of deeply implanted Nexplanon®.
A Pap test is a routine procedure to detect the presence of abnormal cells or cancer. During a Pap test, we may perform tests for genital and vaginal infections.
We offer preconception counseling to help you plan for a future pregnancy. We will discuss your personal and family history, risk factors and lifestyle, and may perform a physical exam and lab testing, as needed. The goal is to help you have a safe and healthy pregnancy for you and your future baby.
STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) Testing and Treatment
We offer rapid testing for sexually transmitted infections. We recommend annual testing and additional testing if you believe you had a possible exposure, experience symptoms or have a new sexual partner.
