Obstetrics & Gynecology

During COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Outbreak

We are still scheduling appointments for new and existing patients. At this time, patients may bring one person to an office visit, office procedure or ultrasound. A child may also accompany the patient if the patient can supervise the child and/or bring one other person who will be responsible for the child.

We have made several temporary adjustments to how we deliver care to reduce your risk and ensure safety. Adjustments we’ve made include:

  • Increased Health Protocols
Masks are required of all who enter our office. We do not recommend bringing a child to your visit at this time.
  • Video/Telehealth visits
These visits allow you to use a mobile device (smartphone or tablet) or desktop computer with a camera to speak with your provider through a video connection.
  • Expanded In-person appointments
We added early-morning and evening appointments for those with medical conditions that make them more susceptible to illness. Additionally, we created appropriate space between chairs in waiting areas and ensure that all patients and care team members have masks and appropriate protection.

Learn more about initiating a video visit by speaking with your physician’s office or by visiting our telehealth services page.

Promoting health through expert care that embraces individuality and diversity

Our team of certified nurse-midwives (CNM) at Jefferson Health provides evidence-based reproductive and maternity care while empowering patients to shape their own health care through education and counseling. Our team partners with you every step of the way as you prepare to welcome your baby into the world. We offer 24/7 Midwifery care so when you’re ready, we’ll be here to guide you through one of the most special events of your life.

Collaborative, Team-Based Care

At Jefferson Health, our Midwifery team partners closely with other OBGYN specialists to share the care of our patients throughout pregnancy. For patients who develop complications during pregnancy, we collaborate with our Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) colleagues who are experts in high-risk pregnancies. With our team-based approach, our patients have access to the full range of OBGYN specialists, along with our Midwifery team, to ensure they receive exactly the care they want and need.

Individualized, Whole-Person Care

Midwifery care is holistic in nature, grounded in an understanding of the physical, psychological, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual factors that influence reproductive health. We recognize that every individual is unique and therefore our care must be tailored to each person within the context of their lives, families and priorities.

Education & Advocacy

As midwives, we emphasize wellness education, counseling and shared decision-making that respects the choices of each individual and their family. We provide resources, guidance and support to help you make informed decisions based on your values and goals, not our own. Our patient-centered approach empowers you as a partner and active participant in your health care.

Health Equity

We are committed to providing equitable and respectful healthcare in our local communities. We believe everyone deserves access to quality health care as a basic human right. We have a long-standing partnership with the City of Philadelphia to provide care in local health centers with the goal of reducing maternal health disparities.

Jefferson Health is committed to providing safer spaces for LGBTQ+ patients receiving primary care and prenatal care. Our team believes birth and childbearing are not experiences solely for cis-women in heterosexual relationships; childbearing and family-making should be available to anyone who wants it. In our Labor & Delivery unit, we are actively promoting the knowledge, systems and support needed to provide competent and compassionate care for our LGBTQ+ community in Philadelphia.

If you have any questions about our LGBTQ+ care, please email Leandra, our lead specialist in LGBTQ+ care, at

Message from our Director

“Welcome to the Midwifery program at Jefferson! As midwives, we are present for some of the most intimate moments in your lives. It can be as profound as the birth of a baby or as stressful as developing a plan of care for an unexpected health condition.

Our responsibility is to listen and provide you with the most valuable information, resources and support so that you can make healthcare decisions that best align with your values, beliefs and goals.

Our midwives have a long tradition of providing accessible, equitable and respectful care in our community. We have a long-standing partnership with the City of Philadelphia to reduce maternal health disparities.

Our collaborative practice with our OBGYN and MFM colleagues at Jefferson Health further expands access to care for people who would traditionally be ‘too high-risk for midwifery care.’”
