Specializing in the advanced treatment of gynecologic cancer

With Gynecologic Oncology at Jefferson Health, you gain a dedicated team with specialized training and deep expertise in treating cancer of the female reproductive system. Our expertise spans all types of gynecologic cancer and precancerous conditions as well as hereditary gynecologic cancer to manage high-risk cases even before cancer develops. The most common conditions we treat include:

Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer begins in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus that connects to the vagina. Human papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection, is involved in most cases of cervical cancer. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists has expertise in managing HPV, precancerous cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer.

Endometrial Cancer
Developing in the endometrium, the innermost lining of the uterus, endometrial cancer is the most common type of gynecologic cancer and has a high cure rate with early detection. Your team of specialists will provide a thorough evaluation and align on a personalized treatment plan for you.

Fallopian Tube Cancer
Also known as tubal cancer, fallopian tube cancer typically develops in the cells lining the interior of the fallopian tubes that connect the ovaries and the uterus. Our Gynecologic Oncology team will help you understand your condition and treatment options so we can align on the best treatment plan for you.

Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (GTD)
GTD, Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, is a group of rare tumors that develops inside the uterus during the early stages of pregnancy. GTD involves abnormal changes in the trophoblast, the layer of cells that normally develop into the placenta during pregnancy. While GTD is rare and most GTD tumors are benign, we have extensive experience and expertise in treating GTD.

Hereditary Gynecologic Cancers
With an emphasis on early detection, we offer risk assessment, genetic counseling and genetic testing for hereditary gynecologic cancers, including ovarian cancer. We help you manage the risk factors of hereditary cancers to reduce the probability of developing cancer. If you do develop cancer, our expert Gynecologic Oncology team will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan based on the latest research and technology, and your unique medical and personal needs.

Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer occurs when malignant, or cancerous, growth forms in the ovaries. Early detection is critical to treating this disease in its first stages when treatment can be most effective. Jefferson Health specializes in gynecologic cancer care, so if you are experiencing symptoms of ovarian cancer, such as bloating or discomfort, contact us to schedule an appointment.

Peritoneal Cancer
Peritoneal cancer develops in the peritoneum, a thin, delicate sheet of tissue that lines the abdominal cavity wall and covers the uterus, bladder and rectum. Our team has specialized training and expertise to treat this rare type of gynecologic cancer.

Uterine Cancer
Uterine cancer originates in the uterus, most commonly in the endometrial lining as endometrial cancer. Together, with our multidisciplinary team, we will develop a personalized treatment plan based on the nature of your uterine cancer and decide if surgery is the best option.

Vaginal Cancer
In most cases of vaginal cancer, cancerous cell growth occurs in the lining of the vagina. Our Gynecologic Oncology team has expertise in using the most advanced treatment methods and technologies available to treat vaginal cancer.

Vulvar Cancer
If you are diagnosed with vulvar cancer, a type of cancer that develops on the outer surface of the female genitalia. We will partner with you and your family to develop a treatment plan based on your medical and personal needs.
