Specializing in the expert diagnosis and targeted treatment of uterine fibroids

Jefferson Fibroid Center specializes in the full spectrum of uterine fibroid treatment options from medications to minimally invasive surgery. Our multidisciplinary team partners with you to align on the optimal treatment approach for you based on your clinical and personal needs, including future fertility. Our advanced techniques for diagnosing and treating fibroids include the following:

Endometrial Ablation
Though the treatment does not shrink or destroy fibroids, endometrial ablation destroys the uterine lining to decrease heavy or abnormal uterine bleeding caused by fibroids.

Hormonal Therapy
The medications most commonly used to treat fibroids are pain and hormonal medications, which may offer control of symptoms and pain related to fibroids. Medications may be used alone or as an adjunct to surgery.

Hysterectomy
We are experts at performing hysterectomies, the surgical removal of all or part of the uterus. If you have severe fibroid-related symptoms, you and your provider may decide that a hysterectomy is the right treatment for you. We can perform the full range of surgical approaches, including vaginal, abdominal, laparoscopic and robotic.

Hysteroscopy
A hysteroscopy involves inserting a hysteroscope, a thin, lighted instrument with a camera, through the vagina and cervix to examine the inside of the uterus. We can perform a hysteroscopy in the office or in the operating room as a short, out-patient procedure.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
Our specialists often use advanced MRI technology to obtain visual detail of organs and tissues to help detect many conditions, including uterine fibroids.

Myomectomy
If you have been diagnosed with symptomatic uterine fibroids, your provider may recommend a myomectomy, a surgical procedure that removes the fibroids while leaving the uterus intact, thus preserving your ability to become pregnant.

Ultrasound
Ultrasounds vary by condition but consist of high-frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures inside the body, including uterine fibroids.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization
Performed by expert interventional radiologists, uterine fibroid embolization blocks the arteries feeding blood to the fibroid tumors to shrink the fibroids while leaving the uterus intact, thus preserving your ability to become pregnant.
