A biopsy is a procedure performed to remove tissue or cells from the body for examination under a microscope.

  • Esophagectomy
While esophageal cancer is rare in the United States, the traditional surgical treatment has been an esophagectomy, where your chest is opened in order to remove the tumor along with a portion of the esophagus, nearby lymph nodes and other tissue in the area.

  • Mediastinoscopy
During a mediastinoscopy, a thoracic surgeon will insert an endoscope through a small incision at the top of your chest to diagnose and stage lung cancer.

  • Thymectomy
If you have been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis or a mass on your thymus, your physician may recommend a thymectomy to remove your thymus.

  • VATS Lobectomy
This state-of-the-art procedure involves inserting specially designed surgical instruments into the chest cavity through small incisions to remove a lobe of your lung.
