The Interventional Pulmonary Program is home to diagnostic and interventional pulmonary procedures for people with lung cancer, lung nodules and masses, enlargement of lymph nodes in the mediastinal (the area between the lungs), complex airway disorders, rare lung diseases and pleural disease.

Patients with possible sarcoidosis, asthma and pulmonary fibrosis receive diagnostic and therapeutic bronchoscopy. Some patients with emphysema are eligible for bronchoscopy.

Multidisciplinary Care

Our multidisciplinary team includes physicians and nurse practitioners who specialize in interventional pulmonary medicine, lung volume reduction surgery, thoracic surgery, otolaryngology, thoracic radiology, and pathology/cytology.

We offer comprehensive services to diagnose and stage lung cancer, and expedite referrals to thoracic surgery or medical and radiation oncology through Jefferson’s Thoracic Multidisciplinary Oncology Clinic in Center City, Jefferson Methodist Hospital, and with our oncology physicians in Northeast Philadelphia.

The Program’s multidisciplinary team also works to diagnose and treat asthma with our Asthma Program physicians, pulmonary fibrosis with our multidisciplinary Interstitial Lung Disease Program, sarcoidosis with our Sarcoidosis Program, and pleural disease with thoracic surgery and interventional radiology.
