Next Day Consultations
Jefferson Health provides next-day surgical consultations for individuals who require them and wish to see a surgeon quickly.
When surgery has been determined as a patient's best course of treatment, that patient wants to select a hospital that has a history of excellence – excellence in training, excellence in innovation and excellence in outcomes. When you choose Jefferson, you have all of that and more.
It was at Jefferson that Samuel D. Gross, MD, served as chair of surgery in the mid-late 1800s. Immortalized in Thomas Eakins' famous oil painting "The Gross Clinic," Dr. Gross set the precedent for rigorous academics at Jefferson. He was responsible for devising countless new surgical instruments and techniques that are used in hospitals throughout the world. That level of excellence and legacy of leadership continues today within Jefferson's Division of General Surgery.
Fine-Tuning Surgical Techniques & Exploring Clinical Trial Opportunities
Jefferson general surgeons are continuously fine-tuning surgical techniques, offering less-invasive options and exploring clinical trial opportunities. We have had important success in liver resections for liver cancers, procedures for obesity, lumpectomies for breast cancer, and various procedures for disorders of the pancreas and biliary tract – most notably the mini-Whipple procedure and robotic-assisted distal pancreatectomy.
Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures
While the prospect of surgery can be intimidating, today it may no longer mean extended hospital stays and recovery times. Jefferson offers a broad range of minimally invasive surgical procedures few other hospitals in the region can match. These pioneering techniques use tiny incisions and miniature robotic instruments for everything from appendectomies to pancreatic resections – allowing many patients to leave the operating room with only Band-Aids® for dressings.
