Smoking Cessation Counseling & Therapy Program

Smoking Cessation

The Smoking Cessation Counseling and Therapy (SCCT) Program provides individualized evidence-based interventions for tobacco dependence. Our certified tobacco treatment specialists offer assessment, counseling, treatment planning, pharmacotherapy, relapse prevention strategies and evaluation.

The Jefferson Department of Surgery strongly encourages all patients who smoke to take full advantage of this effective program before undergoing surgery. Studies show that surgical outcomes are improved when patients stop smoking prior to surgery.

Our Treatment Strategies

The SCCT Program effectively combines the following treatment strategies:

  • A comprehensive assessment
  • One-on-one counseling sessions with a certified tobacco treatment specialist
  • Personalized treatment planning
  • Tailored medication regimen
  • Relapse prevention

As a fully integrated clinical service born out of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the SCCT Program is unique and independent from JeffQuit. SCCT patients benefit from working with a certified tobacco treatment specialist who is also a highly trained nurse practitioner. SCCT Program staff members are uniquely qualified to manage and counsel patients with a variety of chronic diseases or conditions.
