Message from the President
Twenty-six years before women gained the right to vote, the Women’s Board of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital was proving the power of women to make a difference. Organized in 1892 to aid the hospital and the sick, they donated their time and money. For more than a century, the Women’s Board has established fundraising events to support the care and comfort of patients at Jefferson and to financially support major projects at the Hospital. Our contributions reflect a true diversity of services and programs that make a difference throughout the hospital and community.
We are women from all walks of life – mothers, grandmothers, and career women with work experience, as well as, life experience. All of us recognize TJUH as one of the finest medical institutions in the country and are proud to contribute to its reputation for cutting edge medicine and superior care.
Our generous pledges of over $4 million in just the last 20 years have improved and enhanced care in key areas. We have supported brick and mortar projects, such as the installation of the TJUH heliport and the state of the art treatment areas in the Breast Care Center and the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. In addition to these projects, the Women’s Board funds many patient support programs, including more than $100,000 annually to fund: the Chaplaincy program, wigs for cancer patients who could not otherwise afford one, the Emergency Relief Social Work program, Jefferson’s Refugee Health program, Cribs for Kids and many others.
In 2016, the Women’s Board endowed a scholarship of $100,000 that will be matched by the Kimmel Matching Program for Endowed Scholarships increasing it to $200,000. The scholarship will be granted to a female medical student studying women’s health or family medicine. A gift of $25,000 was made to the Nicoletti Kidney Transplant center that provides one location for donors, recipients and their families to gather for all testing and follow-up care.
We are proud of our accomplishments and look forward to working with you as we continue the expansion of the Board’s contributions to patient care, as well as, cultivating new opportunities that will further our mission.
We extend our warmest welcome to you and thank you for joining the Women’s Board.
