Upper GI Series

Your Jefferson physician may order an upper gastrointestinal (GI) series to obtain detailed X-ray images of your esophagus, stomach and small intestine to detect abnormalities that might explain symptoms indicative of digestive disease or cancer.

The information obtained through the procedure will aid your physician in making an accurate diagnosis for conditions such as ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), hernias, motility disorders and cancer. If disease is detected, your medical team may perform further testing or develop a personalized treatment plan based on the precise nature of your condition and your individual needs.
