If you are going home after surgery

Here's what you need to know:

  • Please bring a responsible adult to escort you home.
  • Upon arrival, report to the admissions office located on the first floor lobby area on the day of surgery if you have NOT already registered. Otherwise, please report to the 3rd floor Short Procedure Unit.
  • A nurse will direct your visitors to the Surgical Family Waiting Area located on the first floor, where they can wait comfortably.
  • You can expect a recovery time of 1 to 2 hours unless your doctor tells you otherwise. After the recovery room, you will return to the Short Procedure Unit, where a nurse will care for you until you are ready for discharge. This length of time is based upon your procedure.
  • Please observe our request to limit one visitor per person in order for us to provide optimal patient care.
  • After you receive discharge instructions, you will be escorted to the lobby or parking lot.

If you are staying overnight after surgery

Here's what you need to know:

  • Once you are ready for your procedure, a nurse will direct your visitors to the Surgical Family Waiting Area located on the first floor, where they can wait comfortably. They will receive any postsurgical updates and your postoperative room assignment.
  • Your visitors will take your belongings with them. (Pack lightly; a small overnight bag is sufficient.)
  • You can expect a recovery time of 1 to 2 hours unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
  • You may want to ask your doctor questions that specifically concern your surgery, medical condition and the extent of your hospital stay.
  • On the day of your discharge, you will be escorted to the lobby or parking lot.

Suggested Methodist Hospital Parking Location

If you are coming by car for your procedure, we recommend parking in the Methodist Hospital Parking Garage, located just behind the Hospital. Accessible from the driveway entrances on Wolf or Ritner Streets (between 13th and Broad), the Garage is conveniently open 24 hours a day. You will receive a complimentary parking pass.
