Your Care Team
As a patient at Jefferson, you can rely on a vast team to coordinate and manage your care, from medical and nursing staff to dieticians and social workers.
You have your own personal case manager who will help you and your loved ones handle administrative details, such as insurance, and plan for your care after you've been discharged from the Hospital.

Your attending physician coordinates the medical team for you. Interns, residents and fellows who are licensed physicians in postgraduate training participate in your care and are supervised by your attending physician.
Hospitalists are on staff at Jefferson to offer you support with everything from coordinating follow-up care to helping you with health insurance. Your hospitalist will be at your bedside and provide continuous oversight, working with nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists and case managers. They will respond to your needs in a timely fashion to get needed tests, consultations or treatment quickly.
Our registered nurses (RNs) plan and coordinate your care with your physicians. They are assisted by licensed practical nurses (LPNs), nursing assistants and technicians. The nurse manager, a registered nurse, oversees staff and activities of the unit to which you are admitted.
Jefferson is now a MAGNET®-recognized hospital, having earned the prestigious honor for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Less than 5 percent of hospitals in the U.S. have achieved MAGNET status.
Other Hospital Employees
There are many other Hospital employees who participate in your care. These include technicians, pharmacists, dietitians, chaplains, environmental services staff, transportation aides and volunteers. All employees are required to wear identification badges with their photo, name and department. Never hesitate to ask for identification.
As a patient at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals, you have a right to good pain management. There are many treatment options available to provide pain relief. Since each person is different, our staff will work with you to learn more about the best treatment. We encourage you to participate in your care by telling us about your pain and how well the treatments (relief measures) help you.
Being hospitalized can be an emotional time for both patients and families. Social workers are here to help you explore your feelings and concerns. They can help you understand your illness and how it might change your daily routine. They can also help you, your family and the healthcare team plan your discharge and arrange for special services from Jefferson or community agencies.

As a teaching hospital, Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals prepare students for careers in health care, including physicians, nurses, technologists, technicians and other healthcare specialists. All students are carefully supervised by Hospital staff and will identify themselves to you.
