The team plans to reactivate the program this fall.

“I am extremely proud of our multidisciplinary team. They conducted a thorough review of our program ensuring that we are poised for growth,” said Rohinton J. Narducci Professor of Surgery, Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. “We are also very excited to welcome Dr. Massey and Dr. Boyle whose expertise in clinical care, education and research will help take our program to the next level.”

Dr. Boyle directs Jefferson’s program to treat advanced heart failure with the latest medical therapies and mechanical support. He joined Jefferson in June, most recently from the Piedmont Heart Institute in Atlanta, Ga., where he served as the medical director of advanced heart failure. Over the last 15 years, he has led medical programs in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation at institutions around the country including the Cleveland Clinic. His research focuses on mechanical circulatory support and heart failure therapies.

Dr. Massey will join Jefferson as director of surgical treatment of advanced heart failure. Previously, Dr. Massey served as chief of adult cardiac surgery and the director of cardiac transplant at the University of Louisville. At University of Rochester, Dr. Massey initiated and built a program in heart failure and transplantation. He researches mechanical circulatory support including left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and the artificial heart and is a frequently invited speaker on both topics.
