Cardiologist Stephen Olex, MD, Joins Brind-Marcus Center
VILLANOVA, PA – Stephen Olex, MD, joined the Brind-Marcus Center of Integrative Medicine at Jefferson as its first cardiologist in the practice. Dr. Olex, who is board-certified in internal medicine and cardiology, will provide patients with comprehensive preventive cardiology assessments and treatment plans as part of the Center’s Integrative Heart Health Program.
“Dr. Olex’s expertise and passion for integrative approaches to preventive cardiology is going to be a great resource for our patients,” said Daniel A. Monti, MD, MBA, The Ellen and Ron Caplan Professor and Director of Integrative Medicine and Senior Vice President at Jefferson. “Our goal is to not only treat cardiovascular issues, but prevent them from happening in the first place.”
Dr. Olex is the author of peer-reviewed research on the topic of meditation and cardiology and has delivered invited lectures on the implications of mind-heart and mind-body practices for mental health and cardiovascular health.
“My approach to patients combines a traditional approach with, when appropriate, evidence-based complementary approaches to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease including the use of stress reduction, supplements, dietary interventions and exercise to promote heart health and overall well-being,” Dr. Olex said. “I am interested in the mind-body connection and the many powerful ways in which the mind and heart can affect each other.”
Dr. Olex is certified by the American Board of Integrative and Holistic Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He received his undergraduate education from Franklin and Marshall College and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College, now the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Olex completed residency training at Temple University Hospital and fellowships at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Albert Einstein Medical Center.
