Jefferson Health Appoints Rohinton J. Morris, MD, FACS, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery
(PHILADELPHIA) - Jefferson Health announced the appointment of Rohinton J. Morris, MD, FACS, as Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Professor of Surgery in the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Morris will see patients and guide clinical operations on both Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health campuses, the first cross-campus appointment at the division level for the organization. He will also oversee the division’s academic and research missions.

Dr. Morris has served as Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Institute at Abington Hospital – Jefferson Health since 2010, after serving as Director of the Heart Transplant/Mechanical Assist Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Morris has authored or co-authored more than 40 research articles in peer-reviewed publications and serves as a medical reviewer for Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Journal of Heart & Lung Transplantation, and Circulation. He has presented abstracts and spoken, by invitation, on cardiothoracic subjects at dozens of medical symposia and meetings in the U.S. and abroad. He has been named as a “Top Doc” several times in Philadelphia Magazine’s “Top Doctors” issues, and recognized by Castle-Connolly as one of “America’s Top Surgeons.”
In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Morris is a member of the American Medical Association, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Society of Critical Care Medicine, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Philadelphia Academy of Surgeons, and other professional organizations.
Dr. Morris completed his undergraduate education at Juniata College and earned his medical degree from Hahnemann University. His postgraduate training and fellowships include a general surgical and cardiothoracic residency at Hahnemann University Hospital.
