Jefferson's nationally recognized Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program comes to Bucks County

One of the longest standing Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) programs in the nation is coming to Bucks County for the first time this spring. Starting in April, this popular 8-week program led by experts from the Myrna-Brind Center of Integrative Medicine's Mindfulness Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals will be available in Langhorne, PA.

Although stress reduction is one major goal of the program, 30 years of research have demonstrated numerous other benefits. Studies have shown that an 8-week MBSR program can also reduce depression, physical pain as well as improve sleep, cognitive function, and boost the immune system. People who completed the MBSR course at Jefferson have said: "I have felt complete relaxation like I’ve never felt before and have lower blood pressure now." "Almost 2 months after taking the course I am pain and depression free.” “When I practice mindful eating, I am eating less."

"Mindfulness meditation can help quiet the mind and release physical distress," explains Diane Reibel, PhD, Director of the Mindfulness Institute and Clinical Associate Professor at Jefferson Medical College. "Through mindfulness one can experience greater vitality and wellbeing in the present moment."

There will be a free Introduction to MBSR on April 2nd from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Peace Center at 102 West Maple Avenue in Langhorne. This introduction will give participants a taste of mindfulness practice as well as detailed information about the upcoming 8-week program. To register for the free introduction please call 215-503-6741.

The 8 week MBSR program will be held at the Peace Center at 102 W Maple Ave, Langhorne, 6:30 – 9:00 pm on Wednesday evenings from April 30th through June 18th.
