Three New Faculty Appointments for Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Allen F. Champion, D.D.S., completed his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Morehouse College. While in dental school, Dr. Champion participated in a Clerkship in Periodontics at the University of Maryland.
Prior to his residency, Dr. Champion practiced dentistry in 2005-2007 at Three Lower Counties Community Services, Inc., in Prince Anne, Maryland.
He won the Educator Award of the American Academy of Periodontology in 2005 and was listed in "Who’s Who Among Students".
While in dental school, he was an extern at Pine Ridge Dental Clinic for the Indian Health Service, and he has mentored and tutored students throughout his career, notably at the Upward Bound Program at Morgan State University, at the Frederick Douglas Tutorial Institute, and at Morehouse College.
Dr. Champion is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key National Honor Society.

Shachika Khanna, B.D.S, D.M.D., received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Boston University. She completed her residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center and received a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Kurukshetra University in Haryana, India, where she was awarded a gold medal as “Best Graduate of the Batch.”
Dr. Khanna is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honors Society, won the Graduating Dental Student Award of the American Association of Anesthesiology, and won Colgate-Palmolive Scholarship Awards for Academic Excellence four years in a row as an undergraduate.
She has published peer-reviewed journal articles on acute hemorrhage in maxillofacial surgery and an article on recurrent palatal fistula.
“Dr. Khanna's previous work in virtual surgical planning for orthognathic surgery is an asset to our department, and we welcome her to Jefferson,” said Dr. Diecidue.
Ryan Nathaniel Dobbs, D.D.S., M.D., completed his residency at University of California San Francisco. He graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University School of Dentistry in Nebraska, and received his medical degree from University of California, Davis School of Medicine.
Said Robert Diecidue, “We are very pleased to have Dr. Dobbs on board as he brings expertise in oral pathology and facial reconstruction that will be a valuable addition to our faculty.”
Dr. Dobbs has published several peer-reviewed journal articles on anatomic variables in local anesthetic administration and on the use of dental implants in children. He has received numerous awards and scholarships for academic achievement and is a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society and the Alpha Sigma Nu Jesuit Honor Society. He is an Eagle Scout.
