Aaron S. Dumont, M.D., Joins Department of Neurological Surgery at Jefferson
Aaron S. Dumont, M.D., recently joined the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital Department of Neurological Surgery and was named associate professor of Neurological Surgery at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Dumont serves as director of the Division of Neurovascular and Endovascular Surgery.
Prior to his appointment at Jefferson, Dr. Dumont served as assistant professor of Neurological Surgery and Radiology and associate director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville, VA. While there, Dr. Dumont was appointed director of the Cerebrovascular and Skull Base Service as well as director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center.
Dr. Dumont is board-certified in neurological surgery. A graduate of University of British Columbia with a B.S. in physiology, Dr. Dumont received his medical degree from the University of Calgary in 2000.
Dr. Dumont’s postgraduate training began at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlottesville as an intern of surgery before becoming a resident in neurological surgery, and ultimately serving as chief resident from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Dumont completed his fellowship in Cerebrovascular, Endovascular and Skull Base Surgery at the University of Virginia Health System.
Dr. Dumont has received multiple honors and research awards for his work in neurological and endovascular surgery, including the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation Young Clinician Investigator Award and the Charles A. Elsberg Fellowship Award in Neurological Surgery, both of which came with grant support. He is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health for his research on aneurysm biology and has active clinical research interests in cerebrovascular disease. He has over one hundred peer-reviewed publications.
Dr. Dumont is a member of several professional societies including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism, and the American Heart Association Stroke Council. He serves on the editorial boards of multiple journals including Stroke.
