Tumor/Cyst of the Jaw

Tumors or cysts of the jaw are sometimes discovered during a routine dental X-ray or a routine examination of your oral cavity and teeth. Other times they are diagnosed due to symptoms of swelling, severe pain and bone tenderness. The majority of tumors and cysts originate from cells that form teeth. Although benign, tumors and cysts can be destructive or cancerous. Therefore, they need to be closely evaluated.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons at Jefferson will evaluate your condition and may order additional imaging tests or perform a biopsy of your jaw mass to determine the cause. Treatment of tumors or cysts of the jaw depends on the location and type of tumor.
