Tests & Treatments

  • Adrenalectomy
If you've been diagnosed with a noncancerous (benign) adrenal tumor or adrenal cancer, an adrenalectomy may be a recommended treatment option to remove one or both of the adrenal glands.

  • Biopsy
A biopsy is a procedure performed to remove tissue or cells from the body for examination under a microscope.

  • Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy has the ability to reach cancer that may have spread, even microscopically, throughout the body.

  • Glossectomy
During a glossectomy, a portion of the tongue is removed with a small area of surrounding normal tongue tissue to ensure that all of the cancer is removed.

  • Laryngoscopy with Biopsy
A laryngoscopy with biopsy is one of many in the work-up and treatment of head and neck cancers at Jefferson.

  • Neck Dissection
The purpose of a neck dissection is to remove the lymph nodes in the neck that are at risk as cancer spreads from the main tumor.

  • Nuclear Medicine Scan
A nuclear medicine scan is a test that produces pictures of organs and areas of the body that cannot be seen well with standard X-rays.

  • Parathyroidectomy
During a parathyroidectomy, head and neck surgeons remove one or more of the four natural parathyroid glands located behind the thyroid gland to treat an overactive parathyroid gland or cancer.

  • Parotidectomy
When cancerous tumors develop in the parotid gland, head and neck surgeons perform a parotidectomy to remove that part of the gland.

  • Radiation Therapy
If you are concerned with how radiation may affect your health, Jefferson physicians have made great strides in reducing the effects of radiation on normal tissue surrounding the tumor being treated.

  • Sialendoscopy
Sialendoscopy allows our physicians to get into the incredibly small ducts while avoiding open surgery for treating sialolithiasis, a condition in which painful stones form within a salivary gland.

  • Thyroidectomy
A thyroidectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland to treat thyroid disorders such as cancer or an overactive thyroid.

  • Total Laryngectomy
Total laryngectomy is a surgical procedure in which the whole larynx or voice box is removed, and a stoma (opening) is made in the trachea (windpipe) in the front of the neck in which you will breathe through.

  • Tracheal Resection
Tracheal resection is surgery for patients with a narrowed airway. The narrowed affected area of the windpipe is removed.

  • Transoral Robotic Surgery
If you have been diagnosed with a cancer of the tongue, tonsil, voice box or throat, we offer a new surgical procedure, transoral robotic surgery (TORS), utilizing the da Vinci® robot system.

  • Ultrasound
An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures inside the body, including the heart, blood vessels, kidneys and liver.
