Pulmonary Fibrosis

A thickening and scarring of the lungs, pulmonary fibrosis can occur after exposure to an unknown substance, but most often there is no known cause. It presents with a progressive, dangerous shortness of breath and cough.

A pulmonologist at Jefferson will perform a thorough exam to diagnose your condition, which may include a series of chest x-rays, chest CT scans, pulmonary function tests and a biopsy.

Although there are is no cure for pulmonary fibrosis, our pulmonologists can work with you to reduce the inflammation and help you exercise without breathing difficulty and identify the optimal timing for lung transplantation.
