Endocrinologists of Jefferson's Thyroid Treatment Program in Philadelphia can provide expert evaluation and management of hormonal and glandular disorders involving the thyroid.

Postpartum thyroiditis is a condition characterized by an inflamed thyroid gland that occurs after the delivery of your child. The gland becomes inflamed due to an injury. Although physicians do not yet know what causes the injury, postpartum thyroiditis can result in temporary hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) or hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid).

One of the many advantages of managing your pregnancy and delivery at Jefferson is the access you have to specialists, should the need arise. If you are diagnosed with postpartum thyroiditis and experience hyperthyroidism, treatment is usually not necessary. However, if your condition progresses and symptoms of hypothyroidism become evident, thyroid hormone replacement therapy may be considered.

The Program is the only one of its kind in the Philadelphia region and offers a unique multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of certain thyroid disorders including tumors.
