Tests & Treatments

  • Biopsy
    A biopsy is a procedure performed to remove tissue or cells from the body for examination under a microscope.

  • Brachytherapy
    Has been shown to be highly effective in treating many types of cancer, and is particularly effective for small, localized tumors.

  • Colposcopy
    If your routine pelvic examination shows cervical or vaginal problems or your Pap test is abnormal, your gynecologist may recommend a colposcopy.

  • Dilation and Curettage
    Dilation and curettage (D & C) is a gynecological surgical procedure in which your cervix is dilated and the lining of the uterus is scraped away.

  • Hysterectomy
    If you have severe fibroid tumors, endometriosis, cancer or endometrial hyperplasia, you and your physician may decide that a hysterectomy is the right treatment for you.

  • Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure
    If your gynecologist finds cervical or vaginal problems during a pelvic exam or your Pap test is abnormal, a LEEP may be recommended.

  • Radiation Therapy
    If you are concerned with how radiation may affect your health, Jefferson physicians have made great strides in reducing the effects of radiation on normal tissue surrounding the tumor being treated.

  • Rapid Access Radiation Therapy (RAP-PT)
    Rapid Access Radiation Therapy provides pain relief for cancer that has spread to the bone as a source of comfort for patients with advanced cancer. It can be used as an alternative to narcotics or in addition to other pain medications.

  • Ultrasound
    An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to look at organs and structures inside the body, including the heart, blood vessels, kidneys and liver.
