Menorrhagia

If you are experiencing prolonged and heavy menstrual bleeding that it interrupts your daily life, or your menstrual cycle lasts more than seven days, you may have menorrhagia. Menorrhagia is the most common type of abnormal uterine bleeding and can be caused by a variety of factors including hormones, uterine fibroids or pelvic inflammatory disease.

Gynecologists at Jefferson are experts in diagnosing and treating this condition. We will assess your condition with a complete physical and pelvic exam, and we may also advise you to get an ultrasound, biopsy or Pap smear to detect any underlying causes. Once your condition is diagnosed, you and your gynecologist will devise the best treatment plan, either medical or surgical, to treat your condition.

If uterine fibroids are determined to be the cause, you can expect to receive some of the best care at the Jefferson Fibroid Center. This multidisciplinary center is the first and only one dedicated to the treatment of uterine fibroids, with internationally recognized experts in uterine fibroids, pregnancy-related issues, surgical treatments and uterine fibroid embolization.
