Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis

Some interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are diagnosed as hypersensitivity pneumonitis, an inflammation of the lungs due to breathing in high levels of dust, fungus or molds, particularly in a working environment. This type of exposure can cause chills, cough and shortness of breath, among other symptoms.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis can be diagnosed by pulmonologists at Jefferson, who may order tests such as a:

  • Chest X-ray
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Pulmonary function tests
  • Blood test

Following the results, our pulmonologists will work closely with you to manage your condition.
