Achilles Tendon Tear

Whether you're a professional athlete, weekend warrior or just beginning an exercise or sports program, an Achilles tendon tear can happen to anyone. If you've experienced a "pop" behind the ankle, it may be an Achilles tendon tear.

Sudden movement, high heels, not stretching properly before exercise and flat feet may cause this common injury.

Diagnosing and Treating Achilles Tendon Tear

If you feel a pop, tenderness, swelling or stiffness around the ankle, our sports medicine physicians will evaluate your condition and order an MRI or ultrasound to establish whether the tendon is ruptured. After a diagnosis is made, your physician will determine whether you need surgical or nonsurgical treatment.
