Tests & Treatments

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair
Jefferson surgeons provide immediate treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms through open surgical repair or minimally invasive endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR).

  • Adrenalectomy
If you've been diagnosed with a noncancerous (benign) adrenal tumor or adrenal cancer, an adrenalectomy may be a recommended treatment option to remove one or both of the adrenal glands.

  • Appendectomy
Our physicians are pioneers in using minimally invasive procedures such as laparoscopic appendectomy, which is less painful and reduces scarring as compared with open surgery.

  • Axillary Lymph Node Dissection
This procedure can be done through a small incision in the armpit at the time of a lumpectomy or mastectomy to see if the cancer has spread.

  • Bile Duct Surgery
Our surgeons are experienced in removing bile duct tumors, which is a delicate surgery that may involve removal of portions of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas and small intestine.

  • Bloodless Liver Resection
A much safer alternative to traditional surgery for treating localized liver cancer or another liver disease.

  • Breast Reconstruction
Our breast reconstructive surgeons can offer women several options depending upon their specific body type and breast cancer treatment.

  • Carotid Endarterectomy
Our surgeons perform carotid endarterectomy to open blockages and remove plaque from the carotid arteries to treat and prevent stroke.

  • Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting
Coronary artery bypass grafting may be safer and shorten recovery time for patients with significant heart failure and poor heart function, as compared to traditional surgery.

  • Distal & Total Pancreatectomy
<p>A distal pancreatectomy is a procedure in which the tail and body of the pancreas are removed, usually along with the entire spleen, whereas a total pancreatectomy is a seldom-used procedure that removes the entire pancreas and spleen.</p>

  • ECMO
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation provides prolonged respiratory and cardiac support to patients whose lungs and heart are so severely diseased or damaged that they cannot normally function on their own.

  • Endovascular Revascularization
This minimally invasive procedure can relieve your lower extremity peripheral artery disease (PAD) symptoms within 1 to 2 hours.

  • Esophagectomy
While esophageal cancer is rare in the United States, the traditional surgical treatment has been an esophagectomy, where your chest is opened in order to remove the tumor along with a portion of the esophagus, nearby lymph nodes and other tissue in the area.

  • Femoral Popliteal Bypass Surgery
Our surgical team has the specialized expertise to perform femoral popliteal bypass surgery for patients with femoral artery disease.

  • Gastric Bypass Surgery
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (or simply gastric bypass) is considered the "gold standard" operation for weight loss.

  • Heller Myotomy
If you have achalasia, a heller myotomy is a minimally invasive surgical technique performed by our surgeons that may provide long-term relief.

  • Hepatic Arterial Pumps
If you have metastatic colon cancer (cancer that has spread to other areas), you may benefit from a hepatic arterial pump.

  • Kidney Transplant
Kidney transplants are performed when your kidney failure is so advanced that it cannot be reversed with dialysis.

  • Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy
Sleeve gastrectomy resects the portion of the stomach that makes ghrelin, a hormone that signals hunger to the brain.

  • Liver Resection
For individuals diagnosed with liver cancer, this treatment option offers the best chance for long-term survival or cure.

  • Liver Surgery
The "bloodless" liver resection technique is improving patients' odds of survival and cutting recovery time in half.

  • Liver Transplant
Cirrhosis, hepatitis and cancer are just some of the conditions that may result in the need for a liver transplant.

  • Lumpectomy
Unlike a mastectomy, which removes the entire breast, a lumpectomy entails the removal of cancerous tissue while sparing the rest of breast.

  • Mastectomy
If it is determined that breast conservation is not an option or if you choose a mastectomy for treatment of breast cancer, our skilled plastic surgeons may be able to provide immediate breast reconstruction.

  • Microsurgery
Today, through microsurgery, our surgeons are able to repair the smallest of blood vessels, transfer tissue from one part of the body to another and reattach severed parts.

  • Pancreas Transplant
If you have Type 1 diabetes and are experiencing major complications from this disease, you may be a candidate for a pancreas transplant.

  • Portal Hypertension Surgery
You may be a candidate for portal hypertension surgery where surgeons use a "shunt" to help relieve the pressure within the blood vessels.

  • Robotic Esophageal Mobilization Surgery
This robotic surgery to treat esophageal cancer improves on conventional minimally invasive techniques by decreasing the number of incisions required to perform the procedure.

  • Single Site Robotic Cholecystectomy
Our surgeons offer a minimally invasive robotic procedure for gallbladder removal called single-site robotic cholecystectomy.

  • Splenectomy
You may need to have your spleen removed if it has been ruptured due to an injury to your abdomen, if it becomes enlarged (splenomegaly), or due to certain blood disorders or infections.

  • Thymectomy
If you have been diagnosed with myasthenia gravis or a mass on your thymus, your physician may recommend a thymectomy to remove your thymus.

  • Thyroidectomy

  • VATS Lobectomy
This state-of-the-art procedure involves inserting specially designed surgical instruments into the chest cavity through small incisions to remove a lobe of your lung.

  • Whipple & Mini Whipple Procedures
If you are diagnosed with tumors in your pancreas or bile duct, your physician may recommend a Whipple or Mini-Whipple procedure.
