Hospital Medicine

As a leading healthcare institution, Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia are committed to continually enhancing the delivery of care to our patients who require hospitalization. Our Division of Hospital Medicine is dedicated to achieving those goals by:

  • Employing dedicated hospitalists (physicians who specialize in the practice of hospital medicine) to provide prompt and complete attention to all of your needs including diagnosis, treatment and the coordination of nonsurgical procedures
  • Collaborating, communicating and coordinating with everyone involved in your care during your hospital stay so that everyone involved understands your specific issues and needs
  • Safely transitioning your care within the Hospital from department to department, and post-discharge, which may include oversight of care in postacute care facilities
  • Efficiently utilizing hospital and healthcare resources

Jefferson has an established Hospitalist Group as well as a Neuroscience Hospitalist Group, which is dedicated to the management of medical issues in neurosurgery patients.

What is a Hospitalist?

Hospitalist is a relatively new term in the healthcare field. At Jefferson, our hospitalists maintain the same standards of excellence that you have come to expect and have been trained and board certified in internal medicine. Working with nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists and case managers, hospitalists lead a healthcare team that meets each morning to ensure you receive complete and coordinated care.

Optimal Treatment from Admission Through Discharge and Beyond

If your treatment requires a hospital stay, you can take comfort in knowing that our hospitalists are here to ensure that your care is closely monitored and that you will receive optimal treatment from admission through discharge and beyond. Our hospitalists will respond to your needs in a timely fashion — to get needed tests, consultations or treatment quickly, and move you through our complex system more efficiently.
