Esophagectomy Survivorship & Support Group

The Jefferson Esophagectomy Survivorship and Support Group (JESSG) is an outpatient program offered by the Jefferson Gastroesophageal Center. Under the Jefferson Department of Surgery, this resource is for patients who have had an esophagectomy or require one for the treatment of esophageal cancer or achalasia. JESSG is directed and supervised by a multidisciplinary team that works closely together.

We are committed to providing pre- and postoperative continuing education, support and health improvement to patients who will undergo or have undergone an esophagectomy.

  • To provide clinical outreach, continuity of quality service and patient-focused care to the pre- and postoperative esophagectomy experience
  • To provide ongoing evidence-based education, support and counseling
  • To provide a medium in which patients may fellowship with others undergoing the same experience
  • To provide a medium in which patients may address challenges, share achievements and discuss care with a collaborative, multidisciplinary team
